Bleeding hearts are symbols of romantic love. In many cultures they specifically signify a broken heart. Makes sense when you look at them, gently drooping

 In Sweden the name of the plant is Lieutenant’s Heart (Löjtnantshjärta). One explanation is that part of the flower looks like a crinoline and inside there is a bottle.  Skirts and drink. Not quite so romantic…
